LGLA
strives to keep membership affordable and has adopted a progressive,
income-based dues structure. Our 2004 membership and renewal
rates are:

General (income of $25,000-50,000)................................$40
General (income of $50,000-75,000)................................$55

need a gay-friendly attorney, can LGLA help?
Unfortunately,
LGLA is not a licensed referral service and therefore cannot
refer you to an attorney. However, some LGLA members have
chosen to make their practice areas and contact information
available to the public. You may search for an attorney practicing
in the field you need through our online membership center.
Please keep in mind that LGLA cannot vouch for any attorney
member, cannot guarantee they will accept your case, and makes
no representation about the outcome of your case.

need a pro-bono referral for no-cost or low-cost legal help,
can LGLA help?
LGLA
is primarily a networking and social organization for gay
attorneys. LGLA does not employ staff attorneys and cannot
offer pro-bono legal assistance. The Los Angeles Gay and Lesbian
Center (323.993.7400) and Los Angeles County Bar Association
(213.243.1525) may be able to help you. Also, some LGLA members
have chosen to make their practice areas and contact information
available to the public. You may search for an attorney practicing
in the field you need through our online membership center.

maintains an active continuing education and social calendar
including our Annual Dinner, Annual Luncheon, Holiday Party,
Hollywood Bowl events, Women's events, Del Mar events, Happy
Hours, Summer Associate reception, Fall Student reception,

am a law student, can I become involved in LGLA?
Absolutely!
LGLA has many active law student members and many of attorney
members who have been active since they were students. LGLA
offers free membership to area law students (including those
studying for the Bar exam). Please click here to learn more

does LGLA offer to law students?
In addition
to free membership to law students, and regular networking
opportunities (most at a reduced price for students), LGLA
offers special events for law students including our annual
Fall Students Reception and Summer Associates Reception. LGLA
also offers annual scholarships, and a mentorship program.

What
kinds of events does LGLA put on?
LGLA
has a diverse calendar of events, ranging from Happy Hours
at the Abbey, concerts at the Hollywood Bowl, Financial Planning,
Downtown luncheons, MCLE, an Annual Dinner and Holiday Party,
even a cruise to Mexico!

Does
LGLA offer MCLE?
LGLA
is an authorized Continuing Legal Education provider, and
offers regular MCLE events. Upcoming MCLE and other events
are listed on our calendar of events page. Past events have
included courses on legal ethics, transgender issues, elimination
of sexual orientation bias, updates on domestic partnership
laws, and substance abuse in the legal profession.

What
does LGLA do to champion LGBT civil rights?
LGLA
promotes the interests of its members, and the GLBT community
as a whole, by preparing and/or joining amicus briefs filed
in legal cases raising issues of importance to the community.
These activities are coordinated by LGLA's Amicus Committee.

How
can I become more involved in LGLA?
Members
can either join the LGLA Board of Governors or join a committee
which interests them. The Board of Governors holds monthly
meetings of roughly 10-15 boardmembers and officers on the
second Tuesday of each month. For those with less availability,
or who want to focus on specific issues, LGLA has a number
of standing committees that concentrate on issues of concern
to women, law students, and other groups, work on putting
on social events or the Annual Dinner, and coordinate amicus
briefs, to name a few. If you would like to become more join

How
is LGLA organized?
LGLA's
officers include two Co-Presidents (one female, one male),
two Incoming Co-Presidents (one female, one male), a Secretary,
and Treasurer. LGLA's Board of Governors includes these officers
and others who meet on a monthly basis. LGLA also has standing
committees, each headed by a member of the Board and comprised
of members. Finally, from time to time the Board authorizes
task forces to address various issues and projects.
